The business field trip
The business field trip is a mandatory, credit-bearing component of the PGD — included in the curriculum for all students, whether studying full-time, part-time, or online.
Taking place in Thailand during the first semester, the trip gives you direct, behind-the-scenes access to real hospitality operations. You’ll go beyond the classroom to observe how high-performing properties are actually run — speaking with general managers and senior leadership teams, asking the questions that matter to your career, and gaining the kind of ground-level perspective that no case study can replicate.
Across the trip, you’ll attend panel discussions, sit in on management briefings, and connect with industry professionals from across the sector — building a network and sharing experiences with peers and practitioners alike.
What you can expect:
- Visits to leading hospitality properties in Thailand
- Direct conversations with GMs and senior management
- Behind-the-scenes operational access
- Panel discussions and industry Q&A sessions
- Peer networking and shared learning
- A credit-bearing assessment linked to your on-site experience
Not a hotelier yet?
We accept high-performing managers from other industries into the PGD on a case-by-case basis and before the academic modules begin, you’ll complete the Hospitality Immersion Programme (HIP): a two-to-three-week, hands-on introduction to how a hotel actually runs.
HIP exists to close one gap: the PGD’s curriculum is built around real hotel operations, and it assumes you can already speak that language. If your background is outside hospitality, HIP gets you there before day one of Module 1.
What HIP gives you:
Guided orientation across core hotel departments — Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and hotel operations so you walk into the PGD with working knowledge, not just theory
Direct exposure to day-to-day service standards and guest experience delivery inside a real hotel environment
Grounding in hospitality terminology, structures, and ways of working, so you can fully engage in case studies and class discussion built around industry experience
A smoother, more confident start to the PGD’s core curriculum
Who it’s for: Applicants transferring into hospitality from another industry. If you already work in hotels, you move straight into the core programme — HIP isn’t required.
HIP runs for 2–3 weeks immediately ahead of Intake 1, for a fee of THB 20,000. Because it’s designed to fast-track you into hands-on hospitality experience, we also recommend HIP participants choose the six-month hotel internship over the work-based project for Part 2 of the programme — keeping that momentum of real operational exposure going all the way through to graduation.
