This coming week we welcome a new cohort of students. It’s their very first semester of AIHM’s Bachelor Business Administration in Global Hospitality Management. As always, this is one of my favourite times of the year. If you are one of the new members of our community, I want you to know something. How special this week is for all of us. Your passion, your vision and your potential to transform the hospitality field inspire us. We embark on this journey together. I’d like to share with you and our other readers the ‘why’ behind AIHM. These are the deeply held beliefs that drive everything we do.
In 2009
Simon Sinek published an incredibly influential book called Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action. In it, Sinek points out that every organisation knows what they do. Many can describe how they do it. Yet only a prominent few can clearly answer why they do what they do.
When defining a business or any organisation, the natural inclination is to start by explaining what you do. Then, the tendency is to elaborate outwards. Instead, Sinek argues for starting with the WHY. Ultimately, he puts this at the centre of your organisation’s efforts, letting this heart drive your actions.
