Where Good Ideas Come From: Inside AIHM’s New Entrepreneurship Series
I’m excited. This is more than the usual “new semester, new students” kind of excited, though that’s always energising. This time, there’s something different.
This semester, I’m teaching Entrepreneurship with a twist: artificial intelligence as a collaborative partner in the learning journey.
FAQs
What is the Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management (PGD)?
The Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management (PGD) is a one-year professional qualification designed for working adults who want to accelerate their hospitality careers or transition into hospitality leadership from another field.
Delivered in academic association with Les Roches, one of the world’s top hospitality schools, the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) combines advanced management study with real-world application.
The programme also serves as a stepping stone to a Master’s degree, offering direct entry to the final semester of the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) at Les Roches in Switzerland or Spain.
Who should study the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)?
The PGD is ideal for:
- Hospitality professionals ready to move into senior or corporate-level management roles.
- Professionals from other industries seeking to transition into hospitality or service leadership.
- General Managers and HR leaders who want to sponsor high-potential team members for professional development.
Participants typically have a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience.
The Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management is also open to those who don’t have a degree but have equivalent learning through at least five years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Do I need to have a Bachelor’s degree to apply for the PGD?
A Bachelor’s degree is recommended, but not required.
Applicants without a degree can still be accepted if they have at least five years of professional experience in a supervisory or management role.
This flexible entry route makes the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) accessible to talented professionals who have built careers through experience rather than formal qualifications.
How is the Postgraduate Diploma structured?
The PGD can be completed in one year and includes:
- Six academic courses: Finance, Revenue Management, Digital Marketing, Events, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy.
- A business field trip to a hospitality destination such as Phuket, linking learning with real-world operations.
- A work-based project or internship, allowing you to apply your new knowledge directly to your workplace.
Flexible delivery options—weekend, evening, or online study—make it realistic for professionals to continue working while studying.
What makes the Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management unique?
The Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management (PGD) combines Swiss-standard academic excellence with Asian practicality.
You gain an internationally recognised qualification in Bangkok—Asia’s hospitality capital—at a cost and schedule designed for working professionals.
Assignments are based on your real workplace challenges, so learning delivers immediate value to both you and your employer.
For those who wish to continue their studies, the PGD provides a direct pathway to the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Hospitality Management at Les Roches.
Can I study the PGD online?
Yes. The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) coursework can be completed entirely online, with live virtual classes, interactive discussions, and digital access to course materials.
Online students complete the same curriculum as well as the business field trip and work-based project.
This format is ideal for professionals based outside Bangkok or those balancing heavy work schedules.
Can I study the PGD part-time?
Yes. Many professionals choose the part-time option, which allows study during evenings or weekends over approximately 9 months of coursework, followed by a 6-month work-based project at their place of employment.
This schedule enables you to continue full-time employment while applying what you learn directly at work.
What are the benefits of the PGD for working professionals and employers?
The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) delivers immediate workplace impact.
Students apply advanced tools in finance, marketing, and strategy directly to their current roles, improving performance and leadership readiness.
Employers gain stronger management pipelines, improved retention, and employees with the confidence and analytical ability to lead.
Can the Postgraduate Diploma lead to a Master’s degree?
Yes. Graduates can progress to the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Hospitality Management at Les Roches (Switzerland or Spain) and earn a Master’s degree after just one additional semester.
Master’s specialisations include Food & Beverage Entrepreneurship & Management, Marketing Management in Luxury Tourism, and Leadership & Talent Management.
What English level do I need for the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)?
Applicants should have IELTS 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 each band) or an equivalent qualification such as TOEFL iBT 80.
If your English level is slightly below this, preparatory options are available to help you meet the requirement.
When can I start the PGD?
The Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management (PGD) offers four intakes per year — January, April, July, and October — so you can begin whenever it best suits your career or business schedule.
